“Jaded Princess was …the most impressive and the most discussed piece.”
— June Braucht, Director Monterey Museum of Art
Created in 1977, the Jaded Princess is a life-sized sculpture hand-constructed from approximately 2,400 electronic circuit boards.
Inspired by the jade burial suits of China’s Han Dynasty, Gloria Alford transformed the defining material of the computer age into a meditation on technology’s power, for both creation and destruction, and ultimately its potential to serve humanity.
Museum-exhibited works of this significance rarely become available through a nonprofit arts organization.
The Santa Cruz Art League is seeking a permanent institutional home where the Jaded Princess can continue to inspire future generations.
Over a career spanning decades, Gloria Alford explored the relationship between technology, culture, and the human experience through painting and sculpture.
The Jaded Princess emerged as one of her most significant works, receiving museum exhibitions, critical reviews, and widespread recognition for its innovative reinterpretation of an ancient Chinese tradition using the technology of the modern age
