Why Lignia.Art Exists

About Us

Lignia began with a moment of overwhelm. When my mother, an 85-year-old professional artist, asked me to serve as her art executor, I was suddenly confronted with the reality of a lifetime of work. Paintings, collages, and works on paper filled flat files, closets, and her art studio. I am an engineer and knew nothing about the art world. I had no idea what to do.

As I began looking for guidance, I found very little that spoke to families at all — unless the artist was already well known or well resourced. Most of the existing support is written for artists themselves, and while much of it is thoughtful and necessary, it tends to be highly bureaucratic: dense language, long documents, and systems that assume time, expertise, and comfort with administrative work. For someone thinking visually, like my mom, it can be hard to know where to begin.

Michelle and Eugenio

Eugenio brings a parallel perspective. With a background spanning marketing, engineering, and startups, he also grew up immersed in art through his father, a prolific photographer. When his father put down his camera, thousands of digital images were left scattered across computers and hard drives. There is a vast body of his work without structure or context.

Together, we created Lignia for artists and families facing these same situations: moments where meaning, responsibility, and uncertainty collide. Our goal is to help people move through that complexity with clarity. We want to lighten the legacy load and ensure that creative work can be understood, cared for, and thoughtfully carried forward.
